UMA sets new dates for physical elections

The Uganda Musicians Association electorate has come out to set new dates for the elections to select a new cabinet. This will be a physical election a thing that King Saha’s camp highly advocated for.

A virtual election that was organized on the 6th of June was aborted just half-way after experiencing challenges in the voting system.

The electoral chairman Mr Geoffrey Ekongot then revealed that a further date would be set and the mode of voting would be devised.

The board now in a letter released has confirmed the 28th of July as the day that the election will happen and this will be secret ballot box.

“Following a resolution on the 10th of June by the Uganda Musicians Association Policy Board, it was resolved that the 28th of June is the new date set for the general elections. That the elections will be held by secret ballot and the elections shall be carried out at one polling centre in Kampala for proper facilitation,” the statement partly read.

Further the association revealed that these elections will be at the National Theater Gardens. These elections will have to be carried out in the next two weeks so that the Association doesn’t continue without leadership.

The decision to have secret ballot voting and in Kampala was arrived at after consultations with the entire UMA policy board. This was a hard decision to arrive at due to the high cost of transportation from all over Uganda by several musicians to vote.

The contestants are expected to continue campaigning and carrying out voter education in the next two weeks. However both Cindy and King Saha are confident of clinching victory.
