The flamboyant Swangz Avenue performer Azawi isn’t holding back. The singer, Priscilla Zawedde in real life, has taken to criticizing Ugandan musicians who have taken government funding.
“Artists ate government money; now they can’t say anything because they are compromised. Yet, when the time comes to hold concerts, they want the people to turn up for them.”
Thanks to Swangz Avenue’s backing and her innate skill, Azawi’s career has already taken off. She is adamant that artists should use their platform to speak up for their fans, especially in difficult times.
She is especially angry with people who have accepted government assistance while their supporters face difficulties like inadequate healthcare.
