Wightman, who received the world title in 2022, missed final 12 months’s Olympics with a hamstring damage on the again of foot and calf issues stopping him from competing within the 2023 World Championships and UK Championships respectively.

The Paris disappointment was the ultimate straw, and led Wightman to alter his private and coaching life as a “final roll of the cube”.

“I received inside per week of the Olympics, and thought was this actually my physique telling me I’ve given every little thing I presumably might,” he added.

“So I relocated myself and my fiancee from London to Manchester, which felt like an enormous deal – my complete life and our good friend group was down there.

“After which in February, I made a decision to half methods with my dad as my coach, which was a good greater deal, as a result of he is been my coach since I used to be 15.

“Even though he is not my coach anymore, he does not lose his position as my father.
