Ulster Rugby: Head coach Richie Murphy needs to signal new deal

Richie Murphy says he want to prolong his keep as Ulster head coach into subsequent season.

Former Eire Beneath-20s boss Murphy changed Dan McFarland in March 2024 and his contract runs out on the finish of the season.

After a disappointing 2024-25 marketing campaign, Ulster have been rejuvenated below Murphy this season, profitable six out of eight matches within the United Rugby Championship desk and qualifying for the knockout phases of the Problem Cup with a sport to spare.

With that progress, the 51-year-old joked he would have appreciated a brand new contract to be sorted “yesterday”, and discussions are going down with the Irish province.

“We’re hoping that would be the case,” Murphy instructed BBC Sport NI a few new deal to remain in Belfast.

“This stuff are a part of the method and Ulster are working by way of that for the time being.”

Murphy stated he was happy together with his teaching workforce, of Mark Sexton, Jimmy Duffy, Willie Faloon and Dan Soper and the set-up has “shaped up rather well”.

“We’re working rather well collectively and the outcomes are beginning to present, so let’s hope that builds ahead for a few years,” he added.

“There’s the soundness for the gamers and understanding who they’re coping with, and being clear round how we’re actually attempting to play.”
