Uganda’s long-distance runner three-time Jacob Kiplimo has damaged the Half Marathon world report on the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon.
In Lisbon, the three time world cross nation champion triumphed in a world report of 57:20 on the World Athletics Elite Label highway race on Sunday.
Kiplimo took 10 seconds off Yomif Kejelcha’s official world report for the space. Earlier than Kejelcha produced that mark in Valencia in 2024, Kiplimo had held the earlier world report at 57:31, which he achieved in Lisbon in 2021.
With no tempo setters, Kiplimo coated the primary 5km in a swift 13:28. Kenyan duo Nicholas Kipkorir and Gilbert Kiprotich have been tucked shut behind the Ugandan for the primary half, with the trio passing by way of 10km in 27:00 as Kiprotich began to fade.
Kiplimo and Kipkorir continued to run aspect by aspect and handed by way of 15km in 40:52. Realising the tempo had dropped barely, Kiplimo picked up the tempo and solid forward, overlaying the following 5km part in 13:31.

He maintained that tempo till the tip and crossed the end line in 57:20. Kipkorir adopted in 58:08 with Kiprotich holding on for third (58:59).
“I’m so blissful to interrupt the world report,” stated Kiplimo. “After the primary 10km, I assumed the world report was doable. I attempted to maintain pushing the tempo within the last two kilometres.”
Final 12 months in Barcelona, Kiplimo had clocked 56:42 but it surely couldn’t be ratified as a world report as a result of the race situations weren’t absolutely compliant with World Athletics guidelines.
In the meantime, Ethiopia’s Tsige Gebreselama efficiently defended her title within the ladies’s race, clocking 1:04:48.
