Nabbanja flags off Crew Uganda for Glasgow Commonwealth Video games

The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has flagged off Crew Uganda on Thursday at Mestil Lodge for the Commonwealth Video games due in Glasgow, Scotland.

Uganda shall be represented by 55 athletes together with 5 para athletes from eigh federations, 34 of those are feminine and 21 male athletes.

The Glasgow video games are to start on twenty third July and climax on 2nd August 2026. Crew Uganda will depart to Glasgow on twenty first July.

“Characterize the nation effectively as a result of you’ll be carrying the nationwide flag on the market in Scotland. Go and win us medals to make us proud.” Nabbanja acknowledged on the flag-off ceremony in Kampala.

State Minister for Sports activities Peter Ogwang affirmed that the federal government will reward each medal winner with money prize.

“We can have 55 athletes representing the nation and i’m optimistic we will win medals. To the athletes heading to Glasgow simply know the federal government will reward Shs100m for each gold, Shs50M for silver and Shs30m for bronze.” Ogwang mentioned.

Uganda shall be represented by 55 athletes competing in athletics, judo, swimming, para swimming, netball, observe biking, weightlifting, boxing and ladies’s 3×3 basketball.

On the 2022 version that was held in Birmingham, Uganda collected 5 medals with 4 coming from Athletics.

Victor Kiplangat grew to become the primary ever Ugandan to a win a commonwealth marathon, whereas Jacob Kiplimo surged to a double gold over the (10,000m and 5000m). Peruth Chemuta managed bronze within the 3000m steeplechase.

The opposite medal was collected by Uganda’s first ever feminine Commonwealth video games boxer Teddy Nakimuli, who claimed bronze on the earlier video games.
