National Unity Platform has fronted Simon Tolit Akecha as their flag bearer for the vacant seat of the member of Parliament of Omoro County.

Mr Tolit triumphed over five other contestants for the same slot to emerge winner.

Tolit has previously contested for the same seat on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket but lost to Oulanyah. Each time he lost, Mr Tolit petitioned court on grounds that Oulanyah stole the vote but the petition would be dismissed for lack of sufficient evidence.

The Omoro seat fell vacant last month following the death of MP and former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

He becomes the second candidate to express interest in the vacant seat and joins Andrew Ojok Oulanyah son to the late former speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Jacob Oulanyah.

The nominations are expected to be held on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th-May-2022 in Omoro district at the council hall.

The elections will take place on Thursday 26th-May starting at 7:00am to 4:00pm
