Reigning Stanbic Uganda Cup champions Vipers SC have progressed to the semifinals of the 52nd version of the competitors following their shootout victory over NEC FC.

The Venoms wanted a 4-3 shootout win after a goalless stalemate in regular time and extra-time within the contest that was performed on the MTN Omondi Stadium on Good Friday.

Abdul Karim Watambala, Yunus Sentamu, Hillary Mukundane and Milton Karisa scored for the holders within the tense shootout whereas Enock Luyima had his kick saved by NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

For NEC, Warren Buule and Pius Obuya failed to attain from 12 yards whereas Hakim Wandera, Ronald Harmless Media and Ssebwalunyo scored the three penalties for the 2024 competitors runners up.

Vipers stay who received a Cup double final season stay heading in the right direction for a second consecutive double triumph.
