The Central Executive Committee of the NRM has endorsed Deputy Speaker Anita Annet Among as their flag bearer for the Speakership race.
The position of the Speaker fell vacant after the passing of Rt.Hon. Jacob Oulanyah on Sunday, 20th March.
Among is an accountant and lawyer by profession. She is also the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament, the same position she held in the 10th Parliament.
The 48 year old is aslo a former Forum for Democratic change (FDC) member where she joined the ruling NRM. In May last year, she was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
If elected, Among will only become second woman to attain the position. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga was the first woman speaker since Uganda got independence in 1962.
The new Speaker will be elected on Friday, 25th March at the Kololo ceremonial grounds.
