Kiplimo dethroned as Amos Kipruto lastly wins Chicago Marathon

After ending third in 2024 and second in 2025, Kenya’s Amos Kipruto lastly gained the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, knocking off defending champion Jacob Kiplimo to assert the 2026 males’s title.

Kipruto this time surged to the entrance within the second half to clinch victory in emphatic style.

Kipruto took management after the 30km mark, beating defending champion Kiplimo. He completed in an unofficial time of two:01:09, properly away from Kiplimo who completed fourth in 2:04:18.

Ethiopia’s Tadese Bikila completed second with a time of two:02:56.

That is Kipruto’s second win at a World Marathon Main, becoming a member of his 2022 victory in London. The 34-year-old got here into the race with a private greatest of two:01:39 set on the London Marathon in April. Solely the defending champion, Jacob Kiplimo, got here into the race with a sooner PB.

For Uganda’s legendary athlete Kiplimo, it was a disappointing defence. He was making an attempt to turn out to be the primary runner to repeat within the males’s division in Chicago because the late Samuel Wanjiru pulled off the double in 2009 and 2010.
